19Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye enquire among yourselves of that I said, A petty while, and ye shall non see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me? 20Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall cry and complaining, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy. 21A adult female when she is in travail hath sorrow, considering her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a human being is built-in into the globe. 22 And ye now therefore accept sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from yous. 23And in that twenty-four hours ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. 24Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my proper name: inquire, and ye shall receive, that your joy may exist total. 25These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: only the fourth dimension cometh, when I shall no more than speak unto y'all in proverbs, merely I shall shew you plainly of the Male parent.

Wesley'southward Notes for John 16:22
16:22 Ye now therefore have sorrow - This gives us no fashion of authority to assert all believers must come into a state of darkness. They never demand lose either their peace, or love, or the witness that they are the children of God. They never tin lose these, but either through sin, or ignorance, or vehement temptation, or bodily disorder.
